| The power lines left shadows on my face. Oops. Next time I'll know better! |
I bought this dress at Macy's last year and only wore it once or twice before the weather got too cold so I put it up in my closet. The other day I saw it and realized it was the same color theme as an apron I had just made. I love how the ruffles blow in the wind. I wish I had fancier sandals but I have a bad habit of losing a sandal, especially when I lived back in Oregon and would go to the beach a lot. I would accidentally leave one in the ocean or lose one in the bottom of a river.
Sometimes I like to spend time browsing crochet patterns on Ravelry. There are some really cool designs there and I love that I can favorite all the ones I like so I can come back to them later, when I want to make something new. I saw a pattern from Tangled Happy for a granny square apron and decided it was something that would be quick to make and cute.
I had a little ball, less than a 1/4 skein of blue left from an earlier project so I decided to use that up. I also had about half a skein of the burgundy color so I used that as well along with yellow. I have a lot of yellow, I use it for everything because I love the color so much. I originally wanted to add another row of granny squares to the bottom to make it longer but I didn't have enough blue, of course. Oh well.
I did variate from the pattern. I didn't like the look of the belt on the apron so I made a granny striped belt instead, to go with the granny theme. I also added a scalloped border to the apron because I wanted it to be more feminine. I really love the border.
I went by JoAnns to pick up some paint and use my coupon that they send in the mail. While there I made a quick run through of the yarn section, as always. I've noticed that they do a lot of markdowns on yarn but only one or two colors from a brand. They put little red tags on the yarn bins and I didn't even notice them for the longest time. Now I scout out the red tags to see if there is anything good on clearance. Usually there are just really ugly colors but I got lucky and got these two pretty skeins, usually $5 per skein for 97 cents each. I can't wait to use them and I have just the project in mind!
That is a gorgeous design!!! Are granny squares easy-ish to make for a beginner? I'd love to try my hand at them, but I'm seriously a complete newbie!

Wow, I am so impressed. I've never actually managed to knit or crochet anything real. I could probably make a dress like that faster than I could make that apron! And mad props on the 97 cent skeins of yarn. That is awesome.
ReplyDeleteSuch a sweet apron1 I love the color combination and especially the yellow, I also use it quite often because it simply makes me smile! Funny, I haven't thought of a granny square apron by now...
ReplyDeleteCute! Stupid question...is it functional? Or for cute? Can you wash it without it getting funkdified? Well, I guess I wash by wash cloths, they just shrink up a bit.
ReplyDeleteGreat apron! I wish I knew how to be crafty like that :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the dress! Eee!
