| I don't think Rocky is the culprit. |
Yesterday I ended up not having to go in to work because the restaurant was slow. I wasn't really able to revel in my day off as I didn't know it was going to be a day off until it was time to go in and my boss text me that I didn't need to. That's okay though, I think I really needed the extra time off to relax and get some stuff done around the house. Earlier in the day I was able to meet up with some friends I hadn't seen in 3 years and it was so nice to see their faces and finally meet their youngest son.
Sometimes my days off aren't very relaxing. This week, my "weekend" was spent at the VA for appointments. The first day was supposed to be the nice and easy appointment but the doctor accidentally took the wrong patient back and that made an easy in and out one hour appointment last almost 3 hours. The next day's appointment wasn't too bad but I had to sit in on it which always makes me nervous. Counselors weird me out a little, I'm not sure why. So with the appointments and the horrible weather on the one day we didn't have appointments, I kind of felt like my weekend was blah. I felt blah. I didn't really get much accomplished.
I think I would've made a great Home Ec teacher, except for the part on keeping up with housework. Since I've been at my new job, my steak cooking and pasta sauce making skills are already vastly improved, now if only they could teach me how to keep up with the cleaning too. I feel like I'm always behind and it really bothers me. I'm not looking for a perfect Martha Stewart house, I totally get that she pays people to clean her messes, but I don't want to be embarrassed to have people over either. One of the major problems is that one of the cats keeps peeing on the bed, creating a never ending pile of laundry which just exhausts me. How do you all keep up with that stuff? Sheer willpower?

i know, i find it hard to keep up with the housework too. i do major cleaning on saturdays, sometimes that runs over into sundays. i don't know how moms with full time jobs and kids do it!
ReplyDeleteI know when I am feeling like I am not getting enough done around the house it really helps to pick a small, achievable accomplishment (keep it small, success is the goal, not "clean all the things!") put on some good music, sometimes peppy, sometimes soothing, you'll know what you need....set the timer for 15 minutes and go at it. When the timer goes off, you can stop and call it a job well done, or if you are enjoying it, keep going.
ReplyDeleteI really feel for you with the Dr. stuff and the pet stuff, those types of things wear anyone down, would you be able to put some kind of tarp on the bed when you are not sleeping in it??
Oh, you teased!! I knew it would hit you one day too. And it didn't even take kids! Congrats on that front. Ha! As for laundry, when I'm rockin my shit, I try to do one load a day. Sounds ridiculous, but in our house it's not at all (Lana+Whites+Darks+towels+sheets+rags+diapers 3-4x/week=LOTS of laundry!!!) And that assumes nobody's peeing in inappropriate places! If the routine works, sheets happen every Monday. Everything else is pretty loose. What works best is when I get the laundry started first thing. As in, when I leave my room to start the day, I pick up the laundry on my way. Feels good to get ish going that early in the day too. Good luck sister!! xo
ReplyDeletePS--I'm with Jennifer. A timer (cheesy as it sounds) and a cleaning playlist make a WORLD of difference!
I have to change our sheets and wash our blankets literally every damn day. My huge area of weakness is the dishes. We don't have a dishwasher in the new place and it sucks balls. I HATE doing the dishes. I blame it on mom. She always made me do them as a kid. Jake hates them for the same reason.
Deletehouse work sucks but i try and keep on it as much as i can. doing one thing a day can help at least make the place look acceptable. i wish we all had little cleaning fairies that we didn't have to pay to help with the load. ugh being a human sucks sometimes.

i don't keep up with housework. i try to pick up once a week/wipe things down and then deep clean once a month. oh and force my bf to help or do the laundry since he doesn't work as much as i do. it bothers me but it bothers me less than it used to cos i'm just like ugh whatever, we're messy, as long as it doesn't get disgusting it's fine.
ReplyDeleteI agree on the timer front! It really helps. I think to myself, only 20 minutes and try to really focus on one area.
ReplyDeleteAs for the cat peeing on the bed- if you have already ruled out medical, try some Flower Essence (you can find it at some pet food stores) or google/amazon Bach Pet Rescue Remedy. My cat would get stressed by big changes and a few drops in his water really helped. Also rule out aversions to current litterbox. Cats pee on our beds to tell us something is wrong in their world and they seek us for comfort (and pee on our bed- yuck!)
