The Yellow Door Paperie is hosting a letter writing campaign of sorts. The purpose is to honor a time in the past, before the advent of the telephone and email, when the only way people got news of each other was through word of mouth or letters, when people used to write what seemed like books to each other.
It seems to me that email, facebook and text messages have made it easy for us to keep in constant contact but that the quality of our communication with each other has declined. I think it's important to keep in touch in a meaningful way and to let others know they're appreciated.
I used to be great at writing letters but have been slacking in the last year, so I'm excited for this motivation. You don't have to do anything in particular, there aren't a bunch of rules, just write and send letters. I love getting "real" mail in my box and not just magazines and bills. So whether you want to write a quick post card, a long love letter, or send a card letting someone know you care, do it this summer for
The Summer We Sent Letters.
There is a button for The Summer We Sent Letters but I am having trouble getting it to work properly. I'll post it if I get it sorted out.
My bestfriend and I used to keep a shared notebook filled with "letters" and notes to each other. Now, we just send emails and text. That's why with my boyfriend, I really appreciate it when he gives me cards and letters. It's so nice to reread them from time to time.
ReplyDeleteThat's such a good idea! Love these photos, makes me wanna write some letters right now :)
ReplyDeleteThe thing about writing letters on paper is that it just takes too long! I know that sounds incredibly lazy of me, but typing is so much faster! I use to love to sit down and write in my notebook, now I just open up MS Word or Notepad.
ReplyDeleteI love real mail!! And I'm excited to learn about this project (this has NOT been my year for sending real mail, sad). This may be the motivation I need :).
