So I've been trying to find a part time job since we've moved here. We're in a small town but there is a larger area about 15 miles away and I wouldn't mind driving down there for work, if there happened to be work that I could do. So far the only jobs I can find just don't work for me. Lifting 75lbs. repeatedly in a packing plant? I think not. Door to door cable sales? Umm no. Farm hand? Not so much. Bouncer at a new night club? Hardly. Also, when I was in college my roommate and I drove over here to fish and we went to the "night club" that was in town at that time. Scariest place I've ever been, hands down. Even if you didn't have your ID they'd let you in if you wrote your social security number on a little card. What? Exactly.
It's not that there's anything wrong with the jobs listed, it's just that I wouldn't be able to perform them very well and I definitely don't feel comfortable knocking on random doors unless I'm asking for food bank donations. I get super angry when people knock on my door, especially when they leave religious readings behind on my porch. Litterers.
I applied for a job today, the only one I've seen that I'm qualified for since we've been here. Considering there are only 3 or 4 new job listings a week though, I don't feel so bad. And yes, that's looking on craigslist, the newspaper, and the Oregon and Idaho Dept. of Labor websites. At least for now I have plenty of unpacking and household things to do to pass the time.

It would be sweet if a job just fell into your lap. I would want to know your secret.
ReplyDeletewell personally i think you should take the club bouncer job. aint no one getting by you! {well unless the have a SS card.}
ReplyDeleteoh and yeah they do have matching outfits for grown ups and kids at a place called SEARS. to bad they don't look nearly as fresh as stella mccartney.
Ew, annoying! Do you know anyone in town that could hook you up? Or might at least have some inside information about possible job openings. The best ones are never listed.
ReplyDeleteAnd if all else fails, you could blog about your life as a farm hand :)
Good luck finding a job! I'm sure the perfect thing is just around the corner!
