Spaghetti Sauce.

I didn't have anything planned for dinner and there isn't much food in our house as we're moving soon and I've already boxed up a lot of our pantry. I popped open one of the boxes and the can on top was tomato sauce. That gave me the idea to make pasta. This year I'm really hoping to be able to can tomatoes for later use but for now, I have to buy tomatoes either fresh or canned. I have never made spaghetti sauce before but it is incredibly easy. It's just one of those things I had never considered making myself.

The cool thing about this recipe is that you can just use whatever happens to be in your fridge.

Ingredients:
1 can tomato sauce
1 tomato diced or 1 can diced tomatoes
1/2 onion diced
1/3 cup green onion diced
minced garlic
pepper
salt
Italian spices

Add your favorite spices (parsley, basil, etc.) and any veggies you have sitting around in your refrigerator (I had squash). I also cooked some Italian sausage in another skillet and added it to Jake's portion.

I cooked the garlic and white onions in a little bit of olive oil and then added the remaining ingredients. I let it cook on low while the noodles were cooking in their pot.

It was so easy, delicious, and a great way to use up the random veggies that end up in my fridge. No more spending $3 on a jar of pasta sauce for me!

I'm taking part in For The Love of Blogs' Tasty Tuesday. If you made something yummy, link up and share! Also, I was so flattered to pop over there and see that they featured my homemade butter. Thanks!

  4. Looks really yummy! I love making my own gravy. I usually buy canned tomatoes because they're always perfectly ripe and they come in their own sauce, and then I use whatever's lying around in the fridge. I love cooking like that :)
