Almost every situation has pros and cons and moving is absolutely no exception.
Pros:
Can decorate however you'd like
Everything is clean
Gives you a chance to donate all of the items you no longer want before you move (pare down)
Cons:
Packing and unpacking
Paying for gas to move your stuff across a state
Lost spices
"Lost spices?" you ask. Yes, my spices are missing. When I packed up the kitchen I put all of the items I wanted from the pantry into totes and donated the rest to the homeless shelter I was volunteering at. Next were the dishes, utensils, cookware, etc. Then I painstakingly went through the spices, threw out old ones, odd ones, and the ones that had less than a pinch left in the bottom. Everything I was keeping went into a plastic bag I stuffed into a tote with other kitchen items.
For some reason someone took the spices out of the tote and put them somewhere else (supposedly another tote). Problem is, nobody remembers which one. I offered his nephews a dollar for whoever found the spices first last night. At first they weren't too excited about my proposition until I reminded them that it's one dollar closer to that xbox game they kept talking about. Then, all the lids came off the totes and they were all searched. No spices.
I know this may not seem like a big deal to some people but spices are expensive. They add up really quickly, especially when you add the ones you use for baking. I use them every single day, it's killing me to not have them. I feel like anything I cook won't taste right. I know spices are available in the bulk foods section of many stores so I could save a little money there, but I'd still have to buy jars to put the spices in. I'm really hoping they were put someplace odd and that they'll turn up and that they weren't left behind on the kitchen counter.

Spices ARE expensive! I hope they are found :)
ReplyDeleteAs a fellow spice lover, I feel your pain. I would cry if my spices went missing.
