I quit my job today. I've never done that before. I threw all of my shit in a box and packed it to my car. Turns out I have quite a collection of books and clothing at work. Then my boss asked me to stick it out for another month. UGH. This is why you should not be friends with your boss and coworkers. I would feel bad just leaving them hanging so I'm sure I'll be in tomorrow, and 5 days a week for the next month or so.
I used to really love my job, not so much anymore. There's nothing worse to me than being unhappy at work. I mean, you're there for 40 hours a week, if not more. That is a huge chunk of your life and I don't want my life being spent doing something that makes me unhappy.
If you really don't want to work there anymore, compose a letter and give it to your boss saying you'll stay for another two weeks, and that's it. You shouldn't feel obligated to stay any longer than that.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I would love to do that but it is more complicated that I initially posted. We have a staff of 4 people, 3 of whom, including myself, are looking to move on. He just wants me to stay until he leaves. Which I think I'll end up doing because I'm planning on moving to Utah soon and could really use the money. I'm going to set an exact date though, not some vague "one month" thing. I'm the only one who does my job and it turns out that I'm one of the best in the entire company (31 stores) at what I do so I'm sure they want me to train my replacement as well. Which I'm fine with because that means I can kind of sit back and ride out my time not really doing much since the new person will need practice. haha i'm evil.
